Why all the worry about this stuff, anyway? Is blogging only about stats? How about just having some fun?

Why worry, because I've had stalker problems on my previous blog and I need to know if they've tried to follow me, hence I need a meter that gives me the info I need.

I've just put statcounter on my blog via a text widget . The counter shows up fine on the blog - but so does part of the html code!!! Duh, am I just daft and missed something basic, or is there a problem with uploading html code from statcounter into a text widget? The instructions said to place the code between <html> <body> and </body> </html>. However, in a text widget no 'body' code is displayed. Please advise. Thanks

@dearmaryam
This thread is a sitemeter thread and you appear to have a question pertaining to statcounter. It doesn't seem to be a a wordpress issue. It would seem that if your statcounter is not doing something that it did do before the statcounter "help" or support at statcounter is where you could direct your question to. http://www.statcounter.com/

F everyone's I, here's step-by-step directions to add Site Meter's counter to WordPress blogs:

http://www.sitemeter.com/?a=manager&area=htmlcode&page=wordpressdotcom

F my I: As has been mentioned, Site Meter uses Javascript to track referrals, search engine keywords and some other stuff, and WordPress doesn't allow it. Has anyone found a stat counter that tracks that stuff without Javascript?

Thanks!

(I just saw yugyug's post above, but here are some more specific instructions).

I have succeeded in adding a "StatCounter" button on my blog, using the widget mechanism. You also have to remove the following section from the code that Stat Counter provides you:

<!-- Start of StatCounter Code -->
<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
var sc_project=1688131;
var sc_invisible=0;
var sc_partition=16;
var sc_security="1fafe9bb";
</script>

Add a text box widget, and just put the remainder of the code that StatCounter provides you in there.

I always start when I finish the previous day and work my way through. The library lost power yesterday so I didn't get much done then. Catch up day today. :)

The Javascript option is not usable here as Javascripts are removed from all users input for security concerns. Reasoning and examples provided here.

I added Sitemeter to my blog and if you follow the instructions carefully there is no problem adding it either as a link or a text widget. I have the regulus theme. There are 2 versions of SM, one one free and one paid. You can use the free one, which gives considerable information, used with the WP blog stats, gives even more.

You can't use the paid version, because it contains javascript which is not allowed on WP.com blogs. If you use the free version, you will see that javascript, for certain information, is disabled.
note - there are instructions on SM to add it to WP, you need to read these and remember to set the options you want, for privacy, ignoring your own visits etc.
