This thread is a sitemeter thread and you appear to have a question pertaining to statcounter. It doesn't seem to be a a wordpress issue. It would seem that if your statcounter is not doing something that it did do before the statcounter "help" or support at statcounter is where you could direct your question to. http://www.statcounter.com/

F my I: As has been mentioned, Site Meter uses Javascript to track referrals, search engine keywords and some other stuff, and WordPress doesn't allow it. Has anyone found a stat counter that tracks that stuff without Javascript?

Had to create a text widget with the html coding, per your post on 7/19.

I just wish that I could add that icon under the "blog stats" widget instead of on it's own, but hey...it's working now. :-)

Argh...I haven't had trouble with sitemeter on other sites before.

I have succeeded in adding a "StatCounter" button on my blog, using the widget mechanism. You also have to remove the following section from the code that Stat Counter provides you:

The Javascript option is not usable here as Javascripts are removed from all users input for security concerns. Reasoning and examples provided here.

I changed my text blog over to Blix and I see the SiteMeter thingie fine within a text widget fine.

I have the regulus theme. There are 2 versions of SM, one one free and one paid. You can use the free one, which gives considerable information, used with the WP blog stats, gives even more.

You can't use the paid version, because it contains javascript which is not allowed on WP.com blogs. If you use the free version, you will see that javascript, for certain information, is disabled.
note - there are instructions on SM to add it to WP, you need to read these and remember to set the options you want, for privacy, ignoring your own visits etc.

I can't get a counter or a graphic to show up. Could it be that the theme I'm using (Benevolence) or the fact that I'm on a mac using Firefox and/or Safari?
