That's why our blogs are structured to display posts in reverse chonological order with the most recent post on top on the main page of our blogs. That cannot be reversed by us bloggers as it's coded into the core of WordPress software, but you can create a book-like structure. http://en.support.wordpress.com/write-a-book/

Aside from that, you can mark a single introductory post as a sticky post by checking the option that says “Stick this post to the front page” in the Publish settings on any post.
