Raincoaster and Timethief - thank you for your answers but I'm confused by both of your posts.

All I want is to write a blog post on WordPress, and have it show up on my Facebook profile. I thought this was a simple feature of WordPress, called publicize, where a post will show on twitter, linked in, and/or Facebook. Currently, even clicking "publicize" on my post draft, it does not show up in Facebook. It does show up on LinkedIn.

Do either of you write posts that then show up on your Facebook profile?

Networked Blogs http://www.networkedblogs.com/
RSS Grafitti http://www.facebook.com/RSS.Graffiti
RSS Graffiti periodically checks the RSS/Atom feeds that you specify and posts any new entries it finds to the Facebook Walls that you specify. You can get any feed written on any wall (Facebook Profiles, Fan Pages, Groups, Events and Application Profile Pages). In fact, multiple feeds to multiple walls. You choose the combination.

I don't use Publicize or any robo-posting apps, because FB automatically downgrades them in others' news feeds. To increase the likelihood that someone other than you will read your posts, manually add the links. But you can also use RSS Graffiti which TT uses, or Networked Blogs, which I used to use. They both work for pages, groups, or profiles.

Are you trying to publicize to a personal profile, a Page, or a Group? Publicize doesn't work with Groups and we generally recommend RSS Graffiti or Networked Blogs.

Using Word shouldn't interfere, but instead of Word, use Windows Live Writer, which works much better. It looks and feels like Word, but you can categorize and tag and upload images etc. And it's free.

I do type my posts in a third party software (MS Word Blog Template) load them to WordPress as a draft, then publish them according to a schedule. Could that be why they never post to facebook?

WordPress.com already provides site maps to search engines for us - we do nothing. http://en.support.wordpress.com/sitemaps/
On the bottom of your Admin page you will find a link to the Learn WordPress.com blogging Tutorial prepared by Staff. http://learn.wordpress.com/
The support documentation is all found at the Support link and the searcbox works very well http://en.support.wordpress.com which is also on the bottom of your Admin page.

You automatically have a sitemap here, so you do not have to worry about that. The moment you created your blog here, the sitemap was created for you and is kept up to date in real time. WordPress also makes "firehose" push notifications available to all the search engines if they wish to use it, and some of the larger ones do.

Your sitemap for the site linked to your username would be: http://billhewsondotcom.wordpress.com/sitemap.xml

No it does not. The pro version gives you your own domain name (along with some other upgrades) but the same restrictions and rules, as far as advertising, plugins, etc., still apply.

To use plugins you would have to self-host your own wordpress installation on a third-party hosting service such as godaddy, bluehost, etc., using the software from wordpress.ORG. Figure an average cost per month, all things considered, of $10 to $25.

If you tell us what you are wanting to do, there may be some work arounds that have been found.

Thanks thesacredpath. Got my answer. The "VIP program" gives what really should be basic pro features, at a fascinating $3,750 / month. Lovely. I'm sure there are suckers in the world. For that price you could setup an entire server farm of topline dedicated hosting in like 50 countries. Whatever...clearly not a solution for any serious user beyond simpletons requiring a basic blog.
