dashboard—>settings—>reading settings—>Blog pages show at most (set the number)—>save

But now many/soon-all-suitable themes have infinite scroll:

Your posts will still be automatically archived for such widgets as "archives" "categories" "recent posts"

It can be disabled:

How does one do this? I'm sure the support page answers this in wordpress-speak, but I don't speak that language!
