Thank you very much timethief, that is a great explanation. This confirms what I suspected, that readers (aka followers) can "like" a post without neccesarily reading the complete post. Such is the vagaries of life. I myself only ever "like" a post if I read the whole post, and consequently do like it, but that is just me.

Yes, the WP page you gave a link for says that a post view occurs only when the post title (aka Permalink) is clicked.

As for WordPress.com being a referrer, when I hover my mouse over the phrase on the Stats page for my blog, I see the URL http://wordpress.com/#!/read/ - which indicates someone visited my site that day via their Reader (or Blogs that they follow).

:)

WordPress.com stats are page view stats. A stat is created only when a page is viewed. The site stats entry explains pretty well, or at least I think it does. See here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/ and if you have more questions you can post again.

Your followers can "like" your posts in several locations without ever clicking into your blog and creating a page view stat. Those who have username accounts only but no blog can become followers and click the "like" button.

A follower can click the “like” button when viewing your posts in the Readomatic reader on the home page of WordPress.com
A follower can click the “like” button when viewing your posts on the Topics pages.
A follower can click the “like” button when viewing your posts when using an app.
An email subscriber can click the “like” button in the email they receive of your new posts without visiting your blog.

P.S. To compel readers to click into my blog to read the full post I have set my RSS Feed to “summary” on this page > Settings > Reading

I am wondering as today my stats for my new blog show 2 hits or views of my latest blog post "Reflections on God and the Tasks of Humans" does that mean only 2 people have clicked on the title link on the home page of my blog, to show the whole post (which is a very long one)?

If a person goes to the "Explore Topics" on WP dot com, and finds my post that way and clicks on continue reading or the title, then does that count as a hit or view.

I sometimes see as a Referrer "wordpress.com" so would that be someone visiting from exploring topics, or visiting only via a direct link to my home page or any page/post that I link to, from these Forums (aka WP dot com)?

The reason for these questions is that while there are alot of likes on several of my blog posts on my 2 Blogs, I see from the stats not the same number of clicks on the corresponding post title, so I think readers must see a photo and/or some snippet from the post that they really like, and use the Like function, but not read the entire post.

Has anyone else had the same happen? I would like readers to read the whole posts, of course, but if they don’t, I can’t help that.

Can any great person (like Time Thief, Happiness Engineer or Sacred Path) answer my many questions?

Thank you for your help. Celine
