There you will be able to locate blogs by category/tag that you can visit, read posts and leave comments on.

In addition, your posts and/or blog may be selected to appear in wordpress.com's Freshly Pressed, Top Blogs, and Recent Posts. If so then you will receive an influx of traffic and responding to each and every comment personally will be important as it's a means of forming relationships with new readers from within the wordpress.com community, who may become regular readers/subscribers/commenters.
