Engtech - that's not necessarily true. If the picture is web "optimized" then you'll have no trouble whatsoever. 50k per photo is fine for a blog and that will leave loads of space.

But there's a 25 Mb limit on your wordpress.com blog for all of your images and posts. Much less of a hassle to start out hosting the images elsewhere.

Also, 50k is a bit optimistic. Flickr uses 200-250k image size for their default versions.

I just know that a friend of mine (http://omgkitties.wordpress.com) was going with the "upload to wordpress" method at the start and she ran into all kinds of headaches. Using Flickr from the start for hosting is a lot less time consuming in the long run.

If you wanted to provide a link to a larger version, then use flickr, but otherwise there's no need.
