The reason we do this is to be able to serve your (and indeed everybody’s) gravatar images much more quickly and reliably. It might take a little while before you see the change. I have emptied the cache of my browser; Gravatar is supposed to empty the cache of theirs, but it's not happening and there's no way of contacting them.
