How do you get the audio into an "audio" type post if you don't have the addons to upload it direct to WordPress?

I know how to get it into an audio player - that's an FAQ. I'm asking how to make use the special audio post type, so that it highlights audio as intended. As far as I can tell, the only difference to any other post is that it doesn't display the title.
