All themes accept the same HTML in comments. It's just that the CSS of Nuntius doesn't specify italics for the i tag, so the tag has no effect. You can use the em tag, as timethief suggested (for quotations you can also use the blockquote tag), and you can hope that the WP Theme will see this and maybe change the CSS of the theme.

Only some themes are coded to allow HTML in comments and your is not among them. See: http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/05/10/html-allowed-in-comments-1/

BTW the correct HTML for italics is not
The correct HTML for italics is

to open and

to close.

We italicize the portion of the previous poster's response that we want to elaborate on. That's what I meant by "quote," sorry.

The visual editor only appears when I'm making an original post entry; it doesn't appear in the comment section. That's the part I'm talking about. With previous themes, we used the html code and on and on for italics in order to italicize in the comments section, and it's not working in the Nuntius theme.

Italic lettering and blockquotes are not the same. See this entry on the Visual edior please: http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#row-1
Row 1 icon 2 is for Italic lettering
Row 1 icon 6 is for Blockquotes (a way of displaying quoted text; each theme will style this differently.)

Hi all,

I just changed the theme on my blog to Nuntius. I realized today that the html code for italic is not showing up. The commenters, as well as I, will italicize something, and it shows up as regular text. In essence, we can't quote people in this theme. Can anyone help?
