Instead, use the meta tag code from Google and add it via the Tools section of your blog's Dashboard.

When I 'added a site' I was given the verification code as 'google0e24f07a28dac650.html
In wordpress admin tools I added this code and updated (Bing worked ok)
Wordpress appears not to have accepted this code from google I am unable to verify with google because this page doesn't exist....
