thanks for answer.

I'm not editing in full screen and it's not shoved down. it doesn't appear at all. I can assign tags to post, choose format, layout, set a featured image, and set the publishing time. I see all this menus on the right hand side. What I don't see is the "Categories" option in the editing page, although I already have a list of categories. thanks

I've followed all the steps but still unable to set categories to post, simply because it doesn't appear in the right side editing menu, as I see in other tutorials.
Perhaps is something to do with how I set up widgets?

I can't see the categories menu when I'm editing the posts. Therefore, I can't assign categories to my posts, being all "uncategorized".
That's rather odd for me because I can't organise content.
