This feature is in WordPress.com - so they weren't seeing it.

Have you checked the screenshots posted here and confirmed that you're not seeing that icon? Can you check in Firefox or Chrome?

I have tried to run the browser in Compatibility mode and without it. It made no difference. Apparently somebody else is having the same problem as I understand.

I am still running WIN XP PRO on my 2 computers for which the newest version is IE8. It will not run IE9, which requires WIN7 or VISTA as OS.

I strongly recommend that you upgrade to IE9.

We don't limit users' dashboard experience based on what theme they choose. As Auxclass demonstrates, some of our extremely experienced users like themes like twenty ten (and twenty eleven and twenty twelve).

Have you checked the images that Tess linked to? These should show you exactly how to find the "add contact form" button on your Add New Page page:

a. I tried to decrease the level of security on IE8 down to almost no security, but it didn't help.

b. It seems I am running IE8 on my WIN XP Professional machine and I'm running the 32bit version which could be a problem. I tried to upgrade my software to the 64bit version, but it may not be possible to do on my machine due to some hardware limitation.

c. I could try to run one of the 2 preferred (by WP) browsers instead of IE*, one being Chrome. I'm not sure how much effort this will entail or if it will work, because I don't want to upset my present IE8 computer setup, what with email, etc.

I'd like to hear your and the other Forum members comments on the issue. Tks.

According to the info in your msg, here is what I should get:

"Add a new contact form
You can add contact forms to both posts and pages. Simply click the “Add a custom form” button."

Whenever I try to add a form to either, the graphics shown in your reference never comes up. I either get "Add a New Page" or "Add a New Post," but no "add a new Contact Form" as I'm supposed to. Obviously, there's something I'm missing.

Sorry to tax your patience, but could you pls tell me how to proceed. Also, according to the info, since I'm using theme "Twenty Ten," I'm not supposed to be able to add a contact form and a number of other such useful items, for "security reasons." I'm not clear on what these sec. reasons are, but that's what the documentation says. Maybe it's due to the fact that this theme is used by many novices such as myself, and WP does not want to grant them too many privileges at this stage?

The wp.com contact form will not allow you to automatically collect a list of emails. If you require a reader to fill out an email address, then you would have to copy and paste that "by hand" into your own data base. And common courtesy would suggest that you ask folks who respond if they want to be part of such a list for future email notification.
