By default the front page of the blog will display your posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top.

OK I do understand so just tell me one last thing - if I want to direct my customers to my wordpress posts which URL would I use to direct them there and then they can read many posts by date or category. That is the problem that I am having.

I see a post and a page with the same content. Is it possible that you deleted the sample post then wrote your page. So when you went to your front / home page, you received the 404 not found error. If you had no posts because you deleted the sample, that would explain the 404.

If you then made the info on your page into a post that would explain why timethief and I no longer see the not found 404 message.

Try clearing your browser cache and cookies and see if that will clear up the problem for you.

This may seem like I'm rambling but I'm not. This explains the differences between posts > http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/

Pages http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ that we bloggers create are static ie. they do not automatically update with new content. Only dynamic pages which are automatically created by the software when we publish a post ie. categories, tags, archives pages will update.

There is only one dynamic page for posts that automatically updates in a blog and all posts will display on that page. There is no way to exclude posts from the main posts (blog) page. By default the front page of the blog will display your posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. If you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

Though there is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts and we cannot post to more than that one page, we can create the appearance that we have posted to more than one page. We organize posts by assigning Categories to them. You can create a custom menu and add the dynamic categories pages created by the software into the custom menu. Note that until there is one published post in any category there is nothing that can be displayed on the dynamic categories pages

I want people to comment and be interactive with the posts - that was my fault for publishing pages first - actually that first link was correct and went to the page. As soon as I changed it to a post I received the 404 message.

Until you post the actual link starting with http:// that you click and get a 404 on I cannot click it and tell you what I experience.

I included my wordpress URL on my website so that people could read the posts. So the URL should be linked to the posts.

I am clear on the difference - and in my haste to get it up and running I started with a page - which was my error. I then had some time to fix it and transferred the information to posts - that is when the error message showed up in my link from my website back to the blog. Does that make sense?

I included the blog link on my website - and when I click on it it gives me the 404 not found page. What URL are you using? Does it go to the post or page?

Now I realized that I published a page not a post - so I added a post and deleted the page - what is the new URL? The one that I used indicated "page could not be found. Thank you so much for all your help.

@balancedyoga: sorry about the frustration. I viewed your blog with a couple of different browsers while logged out, and I don't see the "edit this entry" link when logged out. An easy way to determine whether you are logged in or not is to check if you see a grey admin navigation bar at the top of the page, with a "W" logo on the left and your gravatar and nickname on the right.

If you are still running into this issue, could you please upload a screenshot to your media library that shows you as logged out and the "edit this entry" link visible, and let me know which browser you are using? Here is how to make a screenshot:

Will you please try logging out, clearing your browser cache and cookies http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050 rebooting your computer then viewing your blog again without logging in?

I can't see the Admin [edit] link on your blog using Firefox 15 and I think you may be the only one who can see it. I'll flag this thread for Staff and they will take a look at your blog.

So frustrating - I liked my own page and went back through my email to view the post- was not logged in to WordPress - and "edit entry" is visible. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for the quick response. That's what I thought but then I tried to link the blog to my newsletter and website - and the url - shows the same "edit entry". I can't view the blog when I'm not logged in as it doesn't show up so I can't test it.

That Admin [edit] link is visible only to you when you are logged in. No one else can see it or use it. It's for your convenience.
