Time Thief: Twitter is not like FaceBook where you have the option of just being exposed to people you are in contact with frequently on your news feed and so following too many people with unrelated interests can be daunting. So perhaps my mistake lay in not specifying what kind of writers I would like to follow. The fun I find in Twitter however, is that it is really just a status. It's a way of generating stories and gaining information in quite literally a 'hot minute'. The more people you follow, from whatever field you desire, the more up to date you can be with twitter. I don't agree with you that you should be quite so genre specific when it comes to following people of twitter, you just never know who may convince you into liking something different. If we all stuck to only what we were good at, we'd all be ignorant! But I am grateful for your advice and the time you have taken to give it- I will definitely look into it!

Exactly TT... On twitter I follow relatively few, with slightly less followers... but they are all people related to the subject matter of my blog, or a couple of blogger friends (from here of course)...

I can't imagine Twitter with a thousand unrelated tweets constantly... it'd be like standing in the food court of the mall at dinner time.... too noisy!

First and foremost, social media best practices requires you to understand that your Twitter page is like any other website. This means that if you want to increase your Twitter subscriber base, you just need to do one thing again and again: connect with other bloggers who have blogs with similar content to your own found in your own niche, visit their blogs, leave meaningful comments on their posts, and form relationships with them.
