Anyway of doing this through WordPress? There are plenty of plugins and resources for wordpress.org site but not wordpress.com!

It changes the text fine, but can't add an image, which kind of defeats the object.

But I've discovered on my private test blog, some themes can use custom excerpts for only RSS feeds—just by accident and seeing feeds in other themes I have tried for other reasons…

Sorry but I'm no where near as thorough with function experiments as Panos was. Activate the custom excerpt module and see what happens when you write in it.

Depending on the theme you have activated, excerpts you assign may be displayed on your homepage, RSS feed, or archives page.
