Seems like a bug/limitation in the importing process?

Unfortunately it did not work :(

I have deactivated all plugins on the wordpress.org blog. I switched to Twenty Eleven on the same blog and then exported everything.

I then switched on Twenty Eleven in the wordpress.com blog and imported the file. On the first try, only 485 images were imported. I then imported the file again and all the images were finally imported.

But the links in each and every blog still point to the old URL and not to the new wordpress.com blog :(

Any new idea?

I have emptied your blog as requested.

This time, try disabling all plugins and switching to the Twenty Eleven theme on the WordPress.org blog when exporting the file and during the entire import process.

I see, so this would not be important. The only problem I have now is that many images' URLs were not properly converted into the new blog. If you take a look at the new blog's URL, you'll see that most of the images are not visible, even if now they are in the media section of the blog.

http://mariolonzadotcom.wordpress.com

Take a look, for example, at the HMTL of the most recent post. It still shows links to the old blog, with the wordpress.org file structure. As soon as I add the wordpress.com nameservers to my mariolonza.com domain name, the images will not be visible anymore :(

In that case, it would see like the attachment values were never properly saved on the WordPress.org end.

You could continue with them unattached or re-upload them to attach. Attachment is only required is you use a Gallery or Slideshow.

Thanks for the suggestion! We are coming closer to the solution. I followed what you said and imported the XML again. Now the images seem to be there but many of them are unattached. For example, in the original blog only 81 images were unattached, while in the new blog 361 images are unattached.

For example, the most recent ones are unattached.

See this screenshot of the new blog:

Hello,

This thing is driving me crazy. I am trying to move a blog from a wordpress.org installation to wordpress.com. I exported the blog in XML format and I imported it in the new wordpress.com blog.

The only problem is that out of more than 700 images, only less than 500 were imported!

This is the media section in the original wordpress.org blog:
