If you want to set a single image as the Lead to a number of smaller thumbnails, you can use "excludes" to leave your lead image out of the Gallery (smaller thumbnails) and post it as a single image first. Again see the gallery shortcode link referred above, and this is demoed here http://agallerydemo.wordpress.com/2011/03/08/gallery-with-excluded-image/

There is no separate scroll button available, but you should have the Image Carousel enabled if you don't already. That makes a lightbox-style carousel pop up when anyone clicks on a Gallery image.

Alternately, you may want to consider using the new tiled mosaic Gallery, although there you have no control over what images appear larger or smaller. See this http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2012/10/04/tiled-image-galleries/ and also http://agallerydemo.wordpress.com/2012/10/05/shapes-and-mosaics-new-ways-of-displaying-your-gallery-thumbnails/

If you choose to use the standard grid Gallery, you can modify the size of the Gallery image shown in your post or page. This will require you to modify the Gallery shortcode in the Post or Page Text Editor to include the "size" parameter. You may have to fiddle with the number of columns as well.

Explained here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/#gallery-shortcode

And demoed here: http://agallerydemo.wordpress.com/2011/03/20/full-width-gallery-post/

Hello I would like help to like to have some of my picture galleries to appear as full images and not as thumbnails. I would like one larger image to initially appear when a page is opened and a scroll button to appear for the viewer to scroll through rather than the small thumbnail gallery.
Thank you
Joan
