You have to be careful about things like iPage. What type of blogging software are they offering you? Is it a legacy, home-grown system that they have created or are they providing one of the known blogging software packages like wordpress?

If it is a home-grown system, can it export your content, if you should decide to move, and what format does it export it in, and can any of the popular blogging platforms import it? DON'T put yourself at the end of a dead-end street with nowhere to go should you a year from now decide that it isn't for you. We get people all the time asking how to import their stuff from some sort of home-grown legacy system and most times they end up out of luck and have a years worth of copying, pasting, editing and formatting to do in order to move.

Hi there,
I'm interested in changing my url from hgsurvivor.wordpress.com to hgsurvivor.com. A friend suggested I look into ipage because it costs $25/year.. This is their site: http://www.ipage.com/blog-plan

I'm a newbie and am curious as to whether or not anyone else has used this company and if their service is good.

I'm also concerned as to whether or not this is the right choice. Should I pay the $18/year to wordpress? And if I do that will my url be able to be changed or do I need to do something else?

I've read through a lot of articles on the wordpress site and have also searched the forums, but I'm very new to this and find that I don't understand enough to make a good decision.

I appreciate any advice. Thank you!
