Make it a private blog. Then export your live blog and import it to the new private blog. The result is that you have a blog you can switch themes as often as you like without your readers knowing. When you find a theme you like, then change the theme on your live blog and add the widgets, formats, etc you did on the experimental site. That should not be a complicated process so you will be able to change quickly.
