If you want to run your own server then yes, you need to buy a server. You need to use server management software. You need to install software from WordPress.org, and you need to contact your internet service provider and sign up for a server package, which is generally more expensive.

I can put html files (my website files) in one of Apache folder that is designated for that. I understand that process but not with WP.org?
If I want to host my own website and if wp.org is not webserver then I need Apache server or IIS server to make my computer a server but then how WP.org will fit there?
