Thanks, that did it. But, that's different from the original format where the concise option only affected the archives and not the frontpage. I can live with it... appreciate all the help.

Under Appearance → Theme Options, if you choose the Concise archive style, it should give you the format you're looking for.

The formatting issue is still not resolved on my site. I tried rebooting, tried publishing a new post, and the 'previous article' summaries are not visible. Is there something else I could try to fix the problem?

I am using Chateau theme. I liked this option because the front page featured a single post, and at the bottom of the page was a 'check out previous articles' in concise format. I noticed that that option has disappeared, and only full versions of each post are now showing. Did I somehow change an Appearance setting?
