It's because these were introduced in that theme before post formats became the norm.

But an interesting find. I had named one of my categories as 'gallery' as a kind of showcase for students' work. Well all posts I categorised as gallery were treated as 'gallery posts' therefore' only the summary appeared on the screen.

Very strange and very annoying indeed. Can anyone suggest what the problem might be?
