You need the space upgrade to upload audio files to your blog but you don't need it to embed audio files to your blog. In that case can upload them to a free file hosting site like Fileden that gives direct URLs.

Note that there is no autoplay on the WordPress.com audio player and that's a good thaing as many of use don't appreciate others selecting our music for us.
