There would be no point offering this option if hiding the tags amounted to not having them. When you hide tags and categories, the beginning of the source code of the post still says:

<div class="post-[number here] post hentry category-[name here] [etc.] tag-[name here] [etc.]" id="post-[number here]">

@izaakmak
One can choose to place a Categories widget and/or Tag Cloud widget in their sidebar of their blog. If they do then those will direct readers to posts on their own blog and not on the wordpress.com global tagging pages. The Inove theme provides options for displaying widgets on some pages and not on others and it also provides these options as well:

Posts
___ Show author on posts. ___ Show categories on posts. ___ Show tags on posts.

I do not know if choosing not to display categories and tags on posts means that the search engine spiders cannot "see" them. They have been assigned to posts and will display in the sidebar widgets.

I hope Staff will clarify so we know if choosing the options of not displaying the categories and tags on posts in the Inove theme amounts to blocking search engines or not.

Hello rowdyrhinos, Categories are broad descriptions and tags are more precise description. here is the WP.com documentation about this http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories-vs-tags/

Also here is a workaround to have your tags point back at just your articles what you will need to do is go to your Dashboard > Then Your Left Nav Bar >Settings > Privacy Settings > Option > "I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors" then click save changes at the bottom of the screen.

Now your tags will point to your posts under the tag the reader clicks

Please note that the Global Tag page is a huge Google Juice pull for your blog so you will suffer some lost of people finding your blog that search for articles that have key tags in them that match their search criteria.

I'm trying to add tags to my posts, but when I do, and click on it, it goes to a wordpress page with every tag on wordpress, not just my own personal tags. what's the difference between tags and categories? I just want it to say "Posted in: (blah, blah, blah)" and then when someone wants to read more (blah, blah, blah) they click on it and get all MY posts with that tag. Not sure how I'm not getting this right!
