Yes you require an FTP client and if you wish to make a DIY move then this post may be helpful > Setting up a self-hosted WordPress.org install I'm sorry but I don't have any suggestions for advertising. I'm in the over 50 demographic group who hates ads on blogs and who has never clicked a single ad on a blog and never will. I have a No-Ads upgrade to keep them off the blog linked to my username and one of the factors I consider when I think I might follow a blog is whether or not there is advertising on the blog.

Thanks for your response! I don't use an FTP client, I only work primarily off of the Dashboard. Am I going to need an FTP client to do all of that on my own? $119 seems a little steep for something I can probably do my self for free.

I'm aware of the little amount that comes in from Google's Adsense as I also have it linked to two of my YouTube accounts, by it's better than nothing. Thankfully some of my content has gotten me picked up as a freelance columnist on another web-site which brings me in some cash, but I would like my web-site itself to bring in its own income even if it is the slightest bit possible. I haven't been able to find any other option as far as advertising, but if you have any suggestions please feel free to share them!

Yes you can move a blog's content. You can hire a web host and set up a free hosted WordPress.org install. Then you can export the content out of your WordPress.com blog (not the theme) and import it into the self hosted WordPress.org install. Links must be exported/imported in a separate file. All content in text widgets must be copied and pasted to move it as it is not exportable. And you can upgrade the nameservers re: domain mapping. If you do not wish to do this yourself then you can pay for a guided transfer upgrade.

I don't know if you are aware of ho little income one gets from Google Adsense. It takes 6 months to a year to earn $100. USD from ad clickers and Google Adsense does not cut a check until the $100. is earned, so I am mentioning that. Those who do move find that their expectations of achieving much income are out of line with reality. For self-hosting figure an average monthly total cost (including cost of a domain name) of about $10 to $25 generally, but that all depends on storage and bandwidth requirements. Note also that most bloggers I know who made this decision barely make pocket change after they pay for their web hosting and associated costs.

I'm sure my problem is something that's been asked before, probably too much, but here goes:

It was not made clear to me before registering for a domain with WordPress.com that I wouldn't be able to use my Google Adsense on my site. I know that it's not allowed on .com, even though I am paying for my domain and hosting which baffles me, so that's that. My question is, can I transfer my site to .org without losing its content? If so, can I do this before my .com expires with Word Press in July?
