It seems that the character isn't odd, it's the usual character for handle plurals, but there is something broken.
Then there is nothing more to do than wait for the new engine for that.

Does anybody know what hell is �?
If I copy and paste the odd character for translation, the strange character appears in the interface in my language (Galician -gl-). But the string appears well in other translated interfaces.
If the character don`t appears here, it's a question mark into a black rhombus or diamond.
Other odd characters runs nicely in translatios when I copy and paste in WP Translation Project.
