The Front Page attribute pulls from 'Posts' that you have set according to the instructions here:

All other pages with images should be 'posts' that are not sticky and have a featured image attached. Be sure to set the location as featured in your post and when inserting the image select 'use as featured image'.

These posts make up the Featured Page. Does that make sense?

Problem is the page that I designate as the Showcase/Front Page doesn't show. If I choose that option neither the text nor the image shows from that page. Additionally, I've tried making my posts into a slider and the image from only one post will show at a time. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You will want to create a placeholder 'page' naming it anything and selecting the front page template attribute. Then in the themes' 'customize' area set the front page to this page you created.

Once I got all the components in there correctly it worked great!

The slider doesn't appear at all for me. Is it a widget I should have? Also, I don't get the "showcase" template that everyone's talking about. Should I see that somewhere?

I've spent several hours trying different methods of a 2 column home page as shown in the theme preview. There seems to be some confusion about it being named Front page instead; however, I give a page that attribute then set it as my static page in the customization area, I get the 3 column layout and "Apologies, but no entries were found" under a heading called Recent Articles event though I have a post with an assigned category AND another featured photo at 1000 pixels wide (plenty big enough)...

The home page slider feature and showcase option just seems to be missing entirely from this theme. Many hours have been lost on this project trying to figure it out... any help is much appreciated.

In Oxygen you can either have a Home page that displays your posts or a static front page ie. a Showcase template. http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/#setting-up-a-static-front-page
