I recently built this site for a friend: http://www.beatculture.net

Whilst he's busy uploading and importing old content, I've noticed that the pagination links at the bottom of the homepage don't work: I get a 404 error.

I've spent ages looking for a solution, but really can't work it out. My permalinks are set to
/%category%/%postname%/

I've set my theme to display 10 posts and I've set the same number in the 'Reading' admin section.

I've also noticed an issue if I click on most of the navigation category links (such as 'Editorial'): whilst my browser status bar says it's going to

http://www.beatculture.net/?cat=4

the URL changes to

http://www.beatculture.net/?cat=4

once the category page has loaded. How do I tidy the URL up? The links work OK, but I'd like them to follow the same taxonomy as the status bar suggests.

It's probably something glaringly obvious, but I'm running out of steam!

Thank you for any help.
