Nothing in the background other than the plain link the same as any other link

I do both.

When I use Scribd I make sure the Scribd code is after the More Tag so the Scribd document only loads when a visitor looks at the whole Post.

I have the option to continue to ftp those files to a web server Available to me and link to them there or I can upload them via the media library to attach them to the page here on wordpress.com. Does having many PDF files attached to a page affect the upload time of a page? What factors should I consider in deciding whether to use the media library or to leave the files on the server? I am aware of the limit on free space. My blogs on wordpress.com are currently private so I cannot share the link.
