Please ignore this thread. Although I'm aware of the distinction between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, I didn't realize they had separate forums (fora?). I'll repost on WordPress.org.

I'm using WordPress 3.2.1 on two different blogs, with two different themes (Thesis on one, and a custom theme on another), and have observed that when I write a new post whose title ends in the letter "y", the "y" is dropped from the permalink. If I manually edit the permalink to reinsert the "y", it is dropped again as soon as I click OK. If I manually edit the permalink to end with "y/", then it sticks. In case it matters (maybe it's a JavaScript issue?), I'm using Chrome as my browser.
