Here's the FAQ on the subject. We had the subscriber level but it was removed.

Views have to have a wp.com account but they don't need a blog. That's an option when they create an account. Here's the FAQ on teh subject if you want to check it out.

I read in the documentation that 'subscriber' is the most basic role in the free WP.com blogs. However, when I go to add another user 'subscriber' is not an option in the pull down list. Why?

Related to that question, I am also wondering if all subscribers to my private invitation-only blog are required to set up a WP.com account. Yes?
