Hi peregrinacultural,

We are aware of this problem and are actively working on a fix. Since you have already deleted the spam posts and changed your password, you should be ok for now.

Have you also taken the other steps - change email password and check for extra Admin's and Post by Email being enabled

Thank You! I am very surprised. My concern is not only with my security. But my blog is used primarily by school children and adolescents, often teachers will suggest a visit, and there are still many people who might click on the links they receives via email, for they are subscribers. I have taken the post out, and have posted a warning on the site. Hope this incident does not discourage followers. I have asked my husband -- who is a follower -- to forward to me his email announcing the post, just in case someone from security might want to check. I don´t know anything else to do, other than what I have already done. I am a Brazilian, so I feel free to admit that this is a land of many, many hackers, and I suppose having as a clientele school kids I would be opened to such a surprise! I am a little calmer now, for nothing wrong showed up the LONG and COMPLETE scan by McAfree. I have changed the password and have Worpress looking at it, so... I can´t do no more. Have checked, no one else is listed as being able to post on my blog. Thank you so much, I am very glad to be able to vent my fears.

Thank you for your prompt response. I have run a through virus, etc program, which is always on, and nothing has been found. I am the only user of this blog. I always use a secure link. Do not post via email. And after this post and the security McAfree check, I have changed the password. I have an average of 6000 visits a day and this has generated quite bit of spam which has been caught by wordpress spam block about 99% of the time. This is the first time something like this happens in 4 ¹/² years here. So I am naturally surprised. I will aske the satff to like at the site, for I live in Brazil, a plave known for hackers, and the links posted on my blog are all in portuguese. Thank you so very much for your help, and above all for calming me down.

A few thoughts:

The only “hacked” sites I have seen here have been people getting the password somehow to a site so you do want to be careful how you log in and use a tough password.

You should also check to make sure that someone has not added a new user to your site. Problems have also happened when there was more than one Admin. and an Admin left on less than graceful terms.

Many times a users email is hacked or the password guessed and the email account is used to get access by requesting a password reset – you need to change your email password and make sure they nobody has been added to your email account.

You should also run a virus check on you PC to make sure your PC does not have a security issue that has compromised your email or WordPress.COM log-in information (also your bank etc. if you do online banking or retirement accounts)

There have also been a few Posts on “hacked” sites and it was because someone got the Post by Email address and using the Post by Email to send in new Posts, if you have Post by email disable the Post by Email and regenerate the address. Spammers have scripts the generate email addresses and they sometimes can get a valid address for a Post by Email address.

I am now receiving emails of followers asking me what is this, they have received. There are dozens of links in the post. All probably with viruses. How could this have happened? I am the only one who even knows the password. My computer is clean, Just had a total virus search done.

Post I have not posted; started with 626 and had lots of links. My followers have received emails with this posting. I have place it in the trash. I have not posted this and need to know if and when there was a violation of my password. I am the only person to post on my blog. Thank you
