Ok, it's populated now, how long does it usually take?
I guess I wasn't clear as to what I was expecting.

I expected the "site has been updated" to be on the front page "http://mckaymotoworks.wordpress.com" instantly, but I take it there is a delay as indicated above?

Pages we bloggers create are static and that means they do not automatically update. They sit outside of the blog structure and you cannot post to multiple pages in any blog. There is only one main page for posts in a blog and all posts will show on the main blog page. There is no way to exclude posts from the main posts (blog) page. The front page of the blog by default will display your posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top.

I have 3 pages that provide various info.
In addition to that, I'd like my daily blog post to populate the front page, with the "Pages" links at the bottom which it does with the URL "http://mckaymotoworks.wordpress.com/2012/09/20/site-has-been-updated" but not "http://mckaymotoworks.wordpress.com"

How do I set the main URL to display my daily post? Not the extended URL with /date?
