When you do a 404 (page not found) error message will appear http://en.support.wordpress.com/not-found/ but as soon as you publish a post, not a page it will disappear.

Yes you can create a custom menu and not include the About page in it.

Or you can edit the About page and update it.

Static pages are not a requirement for blogs I do recommend having an About page. I always amazed when I visit a blog and don’t find one because it’s natural for visitors to want to know a bit about who you are and why you are blogging. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/04/06/why-about-pages-are-essential/

At this time, I want the blog to be for this event only. In signing on I receive a Hello World post? Can this be put in to "trash" so that the post I am writing but have not yet posted is what people see first?

Also, on my post (draft version) there is a tab called About. Is this always with blogs? Can it be removed or do I updated this info.
