I never thought I'd hear myself say this, but "Reblog" is much better at doing the fair use thing than "Press This". http://en.support.wordpress.com/reblogs/

Of course "Reblog" is limited to sites on WordPress.com, whereas with "PressThis" you can pretty much repost/share a piece of any website.

In either case, the utility is as moral as the person who uses it.

WordPress.com TOS Staff have stated in the past that if a WordPress.com site is nothing but reshares, they may eligible for suspension.

Google for "fair use". Generally, copying enough of an article/blog/story to give a quick sense of the direction it is going is considered fair use. It should be clear that it is a copy and not represented as the copier's own work. Blockquoting generally accomplishes that. Copying the whole thing is clearly wrong.

Hi I am new at this and want to understand properly. Please could you explain the difference between 'Press This' and content theft? I cannot find a pure description of what content theft is? I do understand copyright around images but if I use 'Press This' is copyright taken into consideration. Please help. Thanks

Press this is a primitive reblogging feature, that takes a snippet of your post and posts it in another blog as a blockquote. The blogger there then says something like "I was reading this interesting post on another site, and thought I'd share it with you. My thoughts are..." etc.

To my joy, I woke up to find 3 new shares of my article The Hunger Games and Ancient Rome. One of them was a 'Press This' share. What exactly is 'Press This'? The explanation in the WordPress Codex is not exactly straight forward.
