What I *think* I'm having trouble with is removing the previous blog I had in my wordpress.com global dashboard (which used to be self-hosted, and was connected to wordpress.com through the jetpack plugin). The site no longer exists at wordpress.org and I no longer have control over dashboard of the site (the link to the dashboard is broken because I no longer own the domain). Therefore, I'd like to delete it from my dashboard at wordpress.com.

If you think you might want that name in future, then just set it to private so readers and search engines won't be looking at it.
