Thanks for the thorough replies. I'm partial to using the HTML Editor, too, but I'm determined to figure this out.

Can you define "trouble making links"? (e.g. I clicked/pressed this, then this/nothing happened)

*****

I did a few tests on my WordPress.com test blog. Here are the results:

Google Chrome 8.0.552.224 (Incognito Mode)

Hyperlink keyboard shortcut (Alt+Shift+A) displays both a Chrome pop-up (asking for the URL) and the AJAX pop-up

Clicking the hyperlink button (in the toolbar) only displays the AJAX pop-up

Firefox 3.6.13 (in normal and Safe Mode)

Hyperlink keyboard shortcut (Alt+Shift+A) only displays the AJAX pop-up; link appears normal

Clicking the hyperlink button (in the toolbar) only displays the AJAX pop-up; link appears normal

@bryanvillarin
OS windows XP media center edition
browsers Firefox 3.6.13 (and IE8 only when I have to help others)

When this new "linking box" was introduced I've had trouble making links in the visual editor and became annoyed when it appeared to be random and when it frequently necessitated force clearing my browser cache and cookies over and over again. Because I quickly discovered that entering a link in the HTML editor was quick and easy, I shared that with others and ceased to bother trying to enter a link in the Visual editor.

@bryanvillarin, with Firefox 3.6.13 (Mac 10.6.5), I've had trouble making links in the visual editor although it seems to be somewhat random. I just tried a test now and the link function from the visual editor worked fine. When I was having problems (trying to troubleshoot it for others), even turning off all add-ons, clearing my browser cache and cookies, and restarting the browser did not fix the issue.

What I did discover is that if when having linking problems you can switch to the HTML tab and make the link there without issues. That is the reason when I come across one of these threads I recommend that work around.

I'm using Firefox 3.6.13 and using the HTML editor to insert links is what I have been doing ever since the new linking feature was introduced.

It appears like the latest version of FF that came out just recently brought some bugs with it, or perhaps WP changed some stuff in the backend.

What I have found is that if you make sure and save the post manually by clicking the save button before trying to create any links it seems to work fine.

Also at least temporarily if you switch to the HTML tab and then use the link button there to add your links that works as well.

Hi! For about a few days now I have had trouble making hyperlinks in my entries when I use Firefox (I have used this browser since I started blogging trough WordPress - no issues earlier). When I try I get a message asking me if I would like to navigate away from the page.... It works fine when I use IE. What is this?? It is making me so confused.
