Loading time? I thought that depends on what else is in the sidebar or whatever. and cmon, they're just links not a flash plugin or video.
since 2007 I do post a month; the archive looks so ugly.
and meaningless in my case.
I really wish they turn the Recent Posts widget to handle more than that back again.

Why dont wordpress just give user the choice to make their own decision ...

thanks also for your advice. You are probably right. It is probably much safer and smarter to create a page with the archives shortcode as I have done now than to use te recent posts widget for creating a table of contents of your blog.

As raincoaster and timethief pointed out, your best bet is the archives shortcode on another page.

You could also insert a link to your Archives page in a Text widget below the Recent Posts widget. e.g. "For more posts, please see the Archives page."

I have 300 posts online and it helped the readers of my blog to get a complete list of my articles.

Suffice to say that loading down a sidebar with links to every post in a blog is bound to increase page loading time which results in people clicking about before the page even loads. Add to that the fact that more and more people are accessing out blogs via mobiles and tablets. that means our future will be responsive width themes (sidebars displaying below posts in mobiles), effective use of custom menus and post formats.

I have more than double your 300 posts and I created static pages http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ as index pages to my content. They are popular ie. well used. Here are examples:

In addition I have a page with the archives shortcode http://en.support.wordpress.com/archives-shortcode/ on it that provides a complete index to all posts in my blog.

It wasn´t a good Idea to reset this. One function of this recent posts-Widget was that it was also able to create a complete article directory (if you wanted that, of course). It was useful for me. I have 300 posts online and it helped the readers of my blog to get a complete list of my articles.
