It's a little annoying but all things are relative. What I have experienced in the last 7 days on my own computer has been crazymaking. Included were >
a security update that failed to load and had to be done by Norton Staff;
a corrupted disk that did not repair when I used the chdsk utility - 2 times and finally worked on the third try;
an exceeding memory space problem that did not respond when I addressed it the first time but did on the 2nd go round;
being unable to connect to the interent on an intermittent basis which has now been fixed by my ISP;
and a power outage from 5 AM to 12:30 noon on Sunday during the time I had set aside for blogging on onecoolsite.
As I have been coping with these problems I have not been able to answer many forum questions. Hopefully, I had seen the end of these frustration so I can now keep pace with the changes here at wordpress.com.

@tt: Since I've got so many theme-related posts, all this updating little-by-little is driving me crazy!

(As for Contempt, frankly I'm not sure I would use the dropdowns: the design is rather crude.)

Currently, the following themes have this feature enabled: Twenty Ten, Structure, Vostok, Bueno, Enterprise, Notepad, Paperpunch, MistyLook, Under the Influence, Vigilance, Greyzed, Wu Wei, Blix, Cutline, Freshy, Contempt, Ambiru, Digg3, Koi and Modularity Lite. http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#additional-information

Hmmm ... first two sentences I typed in the comment above can be ignored as I didn't express myself well. I believe the rest of what I wrote from "widgets do not differ from theme to theme" conveys what I wanted to convey.

None of the theme here allow for drop-downs in sidebars. Aside from custom menu widgets, widgets do not differ from theme to theme. The only widgets that I can think of that have a drop-down are the Archives and Categories widgets.

That's very helpful information.

One more question. Do you know if any of the themes with
custom menus allow dropdowns in the sidebar?

Better yet, is there a link that will take me to theme
descriptions that show those kinds of details? (So far I feel
like I'm having to learn this detailed stuff the hard way.)

The Contempt theme does not have dropdowns to child pages. Therefore if you want this feature you will have to switch themes. Currently, the Bueno, Enterprise (2 dropdown levels – Top level – Pages & Sub-Pages – Bottom Level – 10 Categories & Sub-Categories) , Greyzed, iNove, Inuit Types, Koi, Nodularity Lite. Monochrome, Neutra, Notepad, Sandbox 1.6.1, Structure, Twenty Ten, Titan, Vigilance, and Vostok themes have dropdowns. So I suggest a theme change.

Yes, I did change over to Bueno, which works great for this beginner. I do apologize for your wasted time. For the sake of this discussion, though, I changed back to Contempt, which I like much better.

I cleared the browswer cache and cookies, but still have the same issue.

I plan to start blogging today and would love for it to be on the Contempt theme. However, I also really want the Past Adventures dropdown menu on the topbar, if possible. If you have any other suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

I clicked into the blog linked to your username. It's wearing the Bueno theme and not Contempt. I see 5 subpages when I hover over the main page. I'm using a Firefox 3.6.6 browser. If this is the blog your are referring to and you cannot see the subpages when hovering, please try logging out of wp.com, clearing your browser cache and cookies, and logging in again. Then please post again to tell us if you can see them or not.

Re: Contempt Theme

I have searched the forum and support sites, but my newbie brain either didn't find the answer or didn't recognize the answer if it was there.

On the top bar under the Past Adventures parent page, there should be six child pages. The child pages did appear if I placed the cursor over Past Adventures when the child-page attributes all had a zero for order. When I assigned them a numbered order under attributes, they stopped appearing when the cursor is over Past Adventures. What did I do wrong?
