Why can't I register my EXPIRED WIX DOMAIN with WORDPRESS?

WordPress.com does not accept domain transfers.

I want to register that same domain with my WORDPRESS blog and registar it through WORDPRESS not WIX. I would like to do that AS SOON AS POSSIBLE so therefore those people trying to find my website aren't confused. Why can't I register my EXPIRED WIX DOMAIN with WORDPRESS?

I spoke to WIX about this and they said to contact you, saying there may be some cool down period.
