If that's the process you have used without success then you will need to contact Staff using this link http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ After you use the searchbox, under the search results, at the bottom of the page there will be a section that says “Have you found the answer to your question?” You can choose either “Yes I found the answer to my question.” or “No I didn’t find the answer to my question and I would like to contact support for help.” The no option will reveal the contact form.

Hello there,
Blog names are the same as usernames for the most part. Usernames can be turned into blog names, but blog names cannot be turned into usernames. You can register any other username and move your blog to it following the guide at http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account. See > http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/cant-change-username-because-i-use-same-display-name?replies=5#post-694997

Ok, so I have a new blog I created without also registering the matching username. Now I'd like to register the username, but I get the error "Username already exists". I can neither log in to that account, (because it doesn't actually exist yet! just the domain), nor get a password for it. Am I missing something? Thanks!
