Actually, replace the first bit of code with this instead.

#header-image-link {

And I expect you would like to move the content up closer to the header image.

You need to download the image I created and the upload it to your own media library and replace the URL between the double quote marks in the background declaration below.

BTW, with a 1000px wide header image (the site is only 960px wide) what do you intend on doing with the navigation as there won't be any place for it?

750px in width is about all you have to work with as far as width.

Nope, it comes out at 2864 x 734.

Do the "save for web and devices" from the file menu instead of just doing a save. That will set it at 72DPI and optimize it for the web.

The WordPress header function will always use the original image size. To use a larger image, you have to put the image in via the CSS instead.

Upload the image to your media library and then post a link to it here in this thread and we can help get it in there for you.

the end goal would be to make the image wider, not really any taller just wider. i have tried making the image wider in photoshop but that does not seem to work. wordpress seems to be making me crop it down. so im guessing maybe there is some code in CSS that is forcing "white space" around it?

does this make since?

Ok because you all were so helpfull fixing my problems and even problems I did not know I had (thank you thesacredpath) last time im going to pester you all with two more little questions. the current state of my blog is

1) how do I get rid of most of that awakard empty space between my header and the line right above my posts?

2) is there a way to make the image i am using for my title longer to take up some of the space between its current location and the column of page links i have on the right side of the page?

well now dont i feel like a fool. i was trying to do something in CSS (and im a rook so i dont know anything in that language). and all i had to do was add a simple widget.

Also, you have moved the menu items to the right in a way that makes rectangular area from the original menu position across the entire header area to where the menu items are and that will likely cause issues for your visitors if they happen to click in the whitespace in between.

Add the following to your CSS to fix this.

#header-left {
float: right;
padding-right: 20px;
width: 150px;
}

.menu ul a {
padding-left: 0;
}

@rossd2002, in your case, you are using the Imbalance 2 theme and you can remove the search box by customizing the "Header Area" on your Appearance → Widgets page. For example, if you want that area to show nothing, add an empty text widget.

That is a widget. If you don't want it there, put a blank text widget into the right top sidebar location at appearance > widgets.

I was also just looking for a way to remove the search box from my blog. or if that is not possible a way to move it to a different location where it does not overlay with my menus.

Anybody know how to remove the "Search Bar"? I don't know if it's s Theme issue. Except you also find this Search Bar in the Widgets section. But with Widgets you have the option of adding or removing the Search Bar if you don't want to keep it there. But for some reason, the Search Bar I'm stuck with apears in my header and it's redundant to have it there.
