I would like for sharing button to properly appear on my media though. In my settings I chose to have them appear for media as well as posts, but they don't. I want the "pin" button at least to show on photos and images.

I'd like to add that for me blogging is not about clicking sharing buttons and it's not about bragging rights re: shares and likes. For me blogging is centered on relationship building and I see far too many low and no quality posts being shared as if they contain something unique when they don't.

For clarity likes and shares numbers are misleading when you are talking about page view stats. Your followers and anyone with a WordPress.com blog who is logged into WordPress.com can "like" and "share" your posts in several locations such as the Reader without ever clicking into your blog and creating a page view stat. Those who have username accounts only but no blog can become followers and click the "like" and/or "share" buttons. Those who do not have accounts cannot use the like button. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2012/07/09/wordpress-followers-likes-and-stats/

I sure hope that never comes to pass. I want my readers to read full posts to the very end and not click any buttons at all until they have done that.

Would WordPress.com consider allowing bloggers the option of posting share buttons for Facebook, Twitter, etc. "above the fold" on their blogs, rather than at the very bottom? I know I'd get many more shares that way. Thanks!
