OOPS! You seem to be in the wrong place. WordPress.com is a MU (multi-user) blogging platform. We run on a different code base than wordpress.org does and you will get different answers to your questions here. The forum for self hosted and web hosted wordpress blogs is located over here http://wordpress.org/support.

I vote for #1 with the additon of the 'our answers wouldn't work since its different software from what you are running' bit that I usually throw in there.

I thought about doing templates but never found the time to do them up. And not having an actual computer online didn't help. Maybe with the laptop now...

'You missed...' sounds rather insulting. Also usually when I write that, I usually get back a "Well I read them anyway but didn't understand them" or a "I still think you should answer me because of who I am" (Anyone remember Billy?) response.

Gotta admit that I've been wanting to rewrite Andy's post since It can be summed up in a few sentances right at the beginning and where to go for help and then follow up with an explaination.

but the links i'm referring to are like links to specific posts in the faq, or link to the wp.org support site. how can that be creating traffic? it's being helpful and making it convenient to the user asking for support.

and the thread you showed me has podz specifically saying links to the helper's blog. so as long as you don't link back to your own blog i guess linking shouldn't be a problem.

I think that first we need drmike to examine the three and indicate which one he prefers us to use or to offer his own in place of them. Once he's done that I'll start making a running list of all the form letter type answers for all the other subjects too and put them all in a single post on bloggersblurt.
However, we won't be able to use links to it because it may look like I'm trying to create traffic as opposed to being helpful http://wordpress.com/forums/topic.php?id=4663&replies=9
So once the form letter answers are "blessed" by drmike we can just copy and paste them from blurt into the questions posted here on the forum.

I've been thinking that maybe I use too many words when answering folks on the forum but I apparently I was wrong about that yesterday. I was overcomspensating or is it undercompensating for my past verbosity.
Would you consider one of the following to be friendly and adequately informational to be used in response to posts like the one above:

Actually TT usually does tell folks why they're on the wrong site. (We all do in some limited way for the most part) I was rather surprised by that.

doc, you have to come up with some manual for voluntary helpers so that we know the right way to help, what not to say and how to say whatever we want to say to help. =)

i.e You're on the wrong site, we're running different software than we are, and our answers would be different.

TT, you have to tell folks why you're directing them to another site. Just telling them to go elsewhere comes off as being not friendly. :)

Is there a way to limit the size of an article on the home page and have a "more" button. I have longer articles and just want to show the first paragraph on the home pages, so I can show more articles without a long page.

Also I am having problems with the formatting of plug-in on my side bar. http://www.getawayhq.com/blog. You will notice that Syndicate continues to follow the same form as the above subject. I have played with the list tags, but can't get it to work. Any ideas?
