Why can't blog names be recycled?
Seems like there could be a really easy way - like w domain names - to do that. What's the reason?
It's very annoying to not be able to.

but the blog has been deleted - is there a way to get that I can activate the name I want since another user deleted that blog?

Deleted blog URLs are not recycled.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/

You can register another blog with a similar name. http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/

Or you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade and it will not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is.

The wordpress name that I want for my blog - "withnails" is already taken, but the blog has been deleted - is there a way to get that I can activate the name I want since another user deleted that blog?
Also, currently, I have "dot com" written out after the name of my blog - "withnailsdotcom.wordpress", and am wondering why that is? Will it publish that way?
Blog url: http://withnailsdotcom.wordpress.com/
