The day before yesterday, the code of my blog went wrong.
Most of my articles were written in Chinese, and some are English and Japanese. Everything was fine until that day.
I already sent the feedback, but the problem isn't solved yet.

WP.com lists over 149,000 users, and yet a fairly common category choice like "Art & Entertainment" (http://wordpress.com/tag/art-entertainment/) lists only duckduckbook's posts.

I suppose that it is possible that he/she is the only person to have chosen that specific category designation. The more correct "Arts & Entertainment" (http://wordpress.com/tag/arts-entertainment/) global tag lists many people.

See what I get for watching Chicken Little. I'm running around telling everyone that the sky is falling. :>

ex: clicking on the "art & entertainment" in sidebar area gets me a list of posts categorized as:
"technology", "social sciences", "history & geography" and so on...

But, I had the problem with two categories -- the first one does have an ampersand, but the second doesn't.

Also, I changed my mind a whole bunch about what the category names should be, and over the course of the last few months I've tinkered with this quite a bit.

And now I'm afraid to tinker (change the ampersands to & a m p ;) because I don't want all my posts to become unassociated the way they did when I changed the category descriptions. I don't have any ampersandish categories that only have 1 or 2 posts in them. . .

Of course the tag in the *posts* link to the theoretically global wordpress tag, and that works fine. It's the links in my sidebar that return the error message discussed above. These are the links that should bring users to all the posts I've written in a particular category.

For instance, thelostwing's category called "Artwork & Photography" actually points to a tag called "artwork", and duckduckbook has a category called "art & entertainment" which actually points to a tag called "art-entertainment".

It's purely a guess, but you might try renaming the category without an ampersand or use the "escaped" version of it below (sans spaces):

& a m p ;

Therefore, "Artwork & Photography" would become "Artwork & a m p ; Photography". I don't know if this will make a difference, but I figured that it was worth a try.

I have the same problem. It happened after I edited the description of a category. It is actually the second problem associated with this edit -- after editing the description, the category unasociated itself with most of the posts it was attached to. When I went back and added the cateogry to the old posts, i got the problem with the category link on my sidebar returning a message: "Sorry, no posts matched your criteria."

But there are posts, 23 of them!
