@fern1470
You're welcome. I'm sorry you were shocked. The surprise method of introducing new features can have that affect on us. There have been times when I shouted out loud when discovering such changes had occurred so I do know where you are coming from. There doesn't seem to be any indication that this change nor the others are optional. If you wish you can make that suggestion by using the Staff contact link. After you use the searchbox, under the search results, at the bottom of the page there will be a section that says “Have you found the answer to your question?” You can choose either “Yes I found the answer to my question.” or “No I didn’t find the answer to my question and I would like to contact support for help.” The no option will reveal the contact form.

I am shocked seeing that there are hits on my private blog today. It takes me a while to finally come to this thread and realise what has happened. Thank you, timethief for directing me to that announcement. I support giving bloggers a choice to decide if they want the stats, particularly for private blogs.

@sharazade
Please read what Staff has said here:

Private blogs, which can be viewed only by users chosen by the administrator, now track the page views of all of their users. Traditionally we have omitted the views attributed to a blog’s own users because stats were meant to reflect the activity of the general public. However, this meant that private blogs had no useful stats reports. This change will be especially useful for private blogs that have many users.

I have a private blog too, with just myself and another user, but I don't want my visits--as the administrator's--to show up. How can I get it back the way it used to be?

There used to be a note on my stats page that said something like "Just a reminder--WordPress doesn't count your own visits." That note is now missing. I can't find any way to return things to how they were before, though. :(

No, I think staff have made a change so that private blogs will be able to have stats. It used to be it would just stay at 0 forever.

Hi,

I have a question: Are you as the writer supposed to count as a reader on the statistics? I only ask because I thought it didn't, but today I have 3 views, and I have a private blog, so I also have to be logged in to see my own blog. Is that unusual or odd? Should I be concerned that others might have been able to "enter" my blog?
