For future readers the problem was related to subscribing with one email address and logging in to wordpress with another.

To clarify, if you subscribe with any address registered with wordpress.com then you must confirm with the same details. If you subscribe with an address that is not registered your confirmation will take place at a special subscription page.

The confirmation email contains details of who the subscription is for.

I'm having the same problem with my blog. Until two weeks ago the "subscribe to comments" functions worked perfectly, but since then I'm reveiving complaints of my readers that they don't receive the mails anymore.
I did a test myself. I logged out of wordpress, left a "test" comment on my own blog, and checked the the box "notify me". I received a mail with "click me to confirm this subscription". I did so, and then nothing happened when new comments appeared on the blog ...

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one! I already have multiple WordPress accounts so didn't want to try creating a comments-only account to add to the load. Right now I'm just saving the confirmation emails to remind myself to check back on the posts to see any new comments, but that's really clunky!

something is definitely wrong.

a) I never received my *own* comments in the past when I ask to receive replies to a post's comments at someone's blog. But now, I do!

b) If someone with no WP account selects to receive replies to a post's comments at someone's blog, he gets a confirmation message with a link to log into WP!, like

http://dashboard.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=subscriptions&activate_comment=XYZ&n=somehexnumber&email=emailaddress

Now both of these are bugs, and they only started 1-2 days ago.

I am surprised that they are still there!

I don't have a site, but just signed up for a user account in order to subscribe to comments I post, and I'm having exactly the same problem:

1. get email to click link to confirm subscription,
2. asked to log in with ID and password (if not already logged in)
3. then arrive at Subscription Management page that says "You have no active subscriptions."

...which, of course, I'm trying to change by clicking on the link to confirm a subscription :o :)

I'm brand new here, so maybe I'm missing something, but it seems broken to me!

I got the following comment from another blogger:

BTW, the ’subscribe to comments’ function seems to be broken. Each time I leave a comment and check the box, I get an e-mail saying I have to click a link to confirm that I want to receive notices for future comments on that post. It happens for every post I comment on. But when I click the links, I’m asked to login with a wordpress.com ID and password so I can confirm. Strange… (Or is it just me? That would not surprise me in the least!)

I've checked my settings in the dashboard under "Discussion" - all of the following boxes are unchecked:
- "Comment author must fill out name and email"
- "Users must be registered and logged in to comment"
- "Don't allow visitors to subscribe to the comments made on this blog"

Is it a problem with my site or the commenter? Nobody else has ever mentioned such a thing.

Thank you,
Ted C. MacRae
