Might be, but can't see a reason to. I had not asked or suggested she subscribe in the first place, and I would think she would remember unsubscribing. But yes, I suppose she might have.

Like I said, that's the first instance it ever happened, and I'm not worried about it. I only mentioned in case it wasn't a fluke, and others run into the same issue. One incident is a fluke, more would point to something not working right.

Is there any chance that she unsubscribed before the second time?

Hmmm . . . Ok, so I used the wrong terminology. I received the two e-mails notices below.

I don't have her e-mails, but when we looked at them they said something along the lines of 'congratulations, you are now subscribed to . . . ' following her confirming the subscription.

The second time I walked her through it, and the emails she received were the same in both cases. She only showed up as a subscriber after the second time. I have not checked to see if she is still there.

Here are my e-mail notices (copied as-is, but with her e-mail X-ed out).
October 4th:
Someone just subscribed to receive an email every time you publish a post. Congratulations.

Their email address is [email redacted], and they appear to be from Woodland Park, Colorado, United States.

October 17th:
Someone just subscribed to receive an email every time you publish a post. Congratulations.

Their email address is [email redacted], and they appear to be from Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States.

Don't mean to be snarky, but are you saying I get a confirmation e-mail someone subscribed even if they do not activate their subscription?

And I looked at both e-mails she received, and they were identical. The second confirmation she received was when I walked her through it with me right there with her.

Again, not a problem, as she is now listed as a subscriber, but it was odd.

When an individual subscribes to your blog, they receive a confirmation email with a link that needs to be clicked in order to activate the subscription.

If they don't click the activation link, they won't receive posts via email, and they won't appear in your subscriber list.

As timethief says. In addition, the subscriptions are split between those who are in WordPress, and those who subscribe by e-mail.

Note there are subscriptions to comments for specific posts that are not the same as subscriptions to the blog.

I had a peculiar instance of someone subscribing, but not showing up in the subscriber list. Also they did not receive notice of new posts.

In this particular case someone subscribed on October 4th, they got confirmation, and I got a notice of their subscription.

A few weeks later I asked them if they had read a particular post, and they replied they did not see it. I checked the subscriptions, and they did not show up.

On the 17th they subscribed again (we both received confirmations), and now they are showing up. Not a problem per se, but wanted to let someone know.
